- what is it? Reiki is a Japanese technique for stress reduction, relaxation and healing. The word Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words, "Rei," meaning universal or higher knowledge and "Ki," meaning life force energy. So Reiki means spiritually guided life force energy.
- how does it work? Reiki can be administered by laying on hands, or by sending energy toward another being. It is based on the idea that every being has a life force energy flowing through them. This life force energy can help an animal heal themselves mentally, emotionally and physically. Low energy is likely to lead to sickness or stress. High energy promotes health and happiness. Reiki treatment helps where it is needed most, be it mental, emotional or physical.
- does it hurt? No. Reiki is completely non-invasive and cannot be forced on a being that is not willing to accept it. Most animals eagerly accept Reiki and visibly relax during treatment.
- what does it treat? Reiki treats the whole being, including body, emotions, mind and spirit. Treatment has many beneficial effects, including feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Reiki relieves side effects, promotes recovery and is complementary to any medical or therapeutic technique. We use Reiki to calm animals during examination, before, during and after surgery, and during euthanasia. Reiki is a powerful healing tool and is useful in every situation that needs healing or calming.
